Your Stories

Your Stories is a new section on Wildlands CPR's website. We want to hear from you - our visitors, supporters, donors, and members - about your stories. We believe that the community of those who are interested in quiet places and wild lands is important to maintain, and a great way to do this is through sharing our stories with one another. Below are listed the stories that have been submitted.

Polluted Water & Spooked Fish

Name:
Jason Kiely
Place:
Lolo National Forest, Montana
On two separate occasions, I've experienced polluting and annoying thrillcraft jetting up stretches of the Clark Fork River popular among anglers who catch and release native Westslope cutthroat trout, rainbows, and the occasional brown trout. One summer day boat fishing with my dad on a stretch immediatly above the town of Superior, another father a son were racing their jet skis up and down a stretch.

Guerrilla Restoration

Name:
Laurel
Place:
Moab, Utah
Where I live - Moab, Utah - it's impossible not to notice off-road-vehicle damage. Some people aren't bothered by it, others determinedly tune it out, and some us turn to drink. I used to be in the last group: beer accompanied by ranting with friends over the front yard campfire. I have now started a new group, though, and am seeking converts: guerrilla restoration.

Off-road Vehicles in the Little Belts

Name:
Josh Hurd
Place:
Lewis and Clark National Forest
I was hiking in the Little Belts of the Lewis and Clark National Forest a couple years ago. As it is fairly difficult to find places in the Little Belts that aren't overrun by off-road vehicles, I was hiking in a fairly remote place that not many people go to (my secret place, so I'm not telling you exactly where here). But I was hiking along, up to the top of this mountain that gives beautiful views of the Rocky Mountain Front, and what do I see, but a freshly cut two-track ATV trail. It ruined my day, and I haven't been up there since.
