Wilderness motorcycle charge reduced

The article describes a disturbing incident in which a hiker leading a Sierra Club outing in Recommended Wilderness was assaulted when he snapped a photo of a dirt biker riding illegally. Under a pending plea aggrement with the County Prosecutor, the dirt biker expects to get off with a slap on the wrist instead of serving time under the felony assault charges he faces. Perhaps the most disturbing part of the story--the untold part--is that the Department of Justice passed on this case even though it occurred on federal land and was investigated by a federal agent. This left the prosecution in the lap of an under-funded rural county.
