Legacy Roads Funding — Year Two

The Legacy Roads and Trails Remediation Initiative received its second year of funding in the US House of Representative’s Fiscal Year 2009 Interior and Environment Appropriations bill but additional hurdles remain that could delay passage until this session of Congress expires.

Real ORV enforcement pays off in WA

The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife conducted a lengthy investigation to determine who some of the primary responsible parties were in an ORV trespass incident that ruined a meadow and affected an irrigation district near Wenatchee, WA. Felony charges were filed against six different people and one, who pleaded guilty was sentenced to 22 months in prison for the damage he caused to the area.

Legacy Road Funding: A briefing by USFS Region 6 for the Washington Watershed Restoration Initiative

Region 6 of the Forest Service shared their plans for restoring salmon habitat and clean water that has been impaired by deteriorating and failing roads pummelled by storms in Washington state. Some part of the $39mm appropriation approved by Congress in late December 2007 is expected to go towards restoring some of these road-scarred areas. That appropriation supports the Legacy Roads and Trails Remediation Act championed by Rep. Norm Dicks (WA).
