ORV Impacts on the Pacific Crest Trail

Our friends with Kern Co. ORV Watch recently sent us their most recent monitoring results. They write:

"Kern County is the OHV capital of California and illegal off-roading is out of control.  Aside from harassment and threats to private property owners, we are witnessing unchecked dirt bike damage to our National Heritage, the Pacific Crest Trail.  There has been absolutely no law enforcement on the trail, nor has the BLM done anything to protect multiple closed BLM parcels from OHV destruction. Hikers are getting lost and equestrians avoid riding the dedicated trail due to heavy OHV use. Our meetings with the PCT, BLM, local sheriff, and Kern County authorities have been entirely unproductive at best."

Those of us that work to prevent this damage know how hard it can be to address the problem, and Wildlands CPR certainly supports all work by Kern Co. ORV Watch.

Below is a video showing current trail conditions and the ORV damage.
