Motorcycles Damage Missoula's Blue Mountain
Today the Missoulian reported on damage caused by illegal motorcyclists in an area that the Montana Conservation Corps just finished rehabilitating. I was going post my two cents on this typical behavior, but in reading through the comments, I saw a response that pretty much sums it up:

...and they let this guy plea down to a misdemeanor (although he did receive some much deserved jail time).

Gather a large number of ORV 'enthusiasts' and add some alcohol: At an Easter weekend gathering, 50 federal rangers faced "near riot conditions" with about 1,000 out-of-control ORV enthusiasts at the Little Sahara Recreation Area in Utah. Revelers sexually harassed a number of women among the 35,000 people using the area, federal reports of the incident show. There were 300 arrests and 37 injuries.

...and it is not just 'a couple of bad apples':
In 2006, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks received survey responses from 446 owners of registered off-road vehicles. Among the full sample of respondents, 23% “always or sometimes” ride cross-country even though off-route riding is against the rules in Montana and has been since 2001.

On January 14, 2010, most all the groomed trails maintained by the Como Trails Club were severely damaged by a man on an ATV....the ATV left foot deep ruts to the cross country ski and snowshoe trails...“There are about 30 miles of groomed trails between Lake Como and Tin Cup and nearly every inch was sorely damaged,”
