We have a Winner!!

Sherry Munther of Missoula is the winner of our drawing for the Collector's Edition of our book, A Road Runs Through It: Reviving Wild Places. Sherry contributed towards the drawing at the Montana Festival of the Book in Missoula in October; so we're very pleased that the Edition is going to a book lover!

Thank you to everyone who contributed; it was a successful fundraiser for Wildlands CPR that will help us continue our work to restore watersheds across the west and the country.

 Congratulations Sherry!

ORV Impacts on the Pacific Crest Trail

Our friends with Kern Co. ORV Watch recently sent us their most recent monitoring results. They write:

Gallatin National Forest Protects Wilderness Study Area

US District Judge Donald Molloy recently ruled against the Gallatin National Forest's proposal to allow snowmobiles into the Hyalite-Porcupine-Buffalo Horn Wilderness Study Area (read more here). The ruling centered around the agency's inability to prove that it was preserving wilderness character when it increased the area for snowmobile use inside the WSA.

Legacy Roads Receives $90 million for 2010!

On Friday, October 30, President Obama signed the Department of Interior, Environment and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2010.  The bill provides funding for public lands management across the country, including the national forests.  While there are many great provisions included in this act, Wildlands CPR is thrilled that the Act includes $90 million in funding for the Forest Service Legacy Roads and Trails Remediation Initiative for 2010.  This is equivalent to the total amount allocated to Legacy Roads and Trails in 2008/2009 combined.
