2008 Legacy Roads Final FS Project Reports
In FY 2008, the Forest Service received $39.4 million for the new Legacy Roads and Trails Remediation Initiative. These funds were designated to protect and restore aquatic habitat for threatened or endangered fish, and clean drinking water for communities. The money was allocated for watershed restoration through road reclamation of unneeded roads and culvert upgrades/critical maintenance on needed Forest Service roads.
Attached are scanned copies of Forest Service spreadsheets documenting the final allocation of Legacy Roads money, by region, for FY 2008. There is also a comprehensive spreadsheet (CMLG project list modified November...) that includes all of the same information on one excel file for all of the Forest Service regions. To make sense of these documents, you will have to compare them to the original allocations (CMLG project list). We haven't had time to do that analysis yet, but will post more information here when we can. Regardless, these do provide important information about how Legacy Roads was implemented during its first year. Please contact our office if you have any questions.
The Forest Service includes the following summary of their 2008 accomplishments in these reports:
- 1,533 miles of system roads maintained
- 180 miles of authorized roads decommissioned
- 351 miles of unauthorized roads decommissioned
- 6 bridges or major culverts decommissioned
- 631 miles of system roads improved
- 11 bridges or major culverts repaired or replaced
- 22 miles of system trails improved
